First day in La Paz

The overnight bus arrived La Paz 5:30 am(earlier than expected). We walked 1.2 miles downhill to get in the hostel to wait for 2:00 pm check in. La Paz is the administrative capital of Bolivia, while Sucre is the constitutional capital and the seat of the Supreme Court. La Paz is the highest capital city in the world, with an average elevation of about 3,650 meters (11,975 feet) above sea level. La Paz was built in a canyon created by the Choqueyapu River (now mostly built over). The lower you go, the more affluent. While many middle-class prople live in high-rise condos near the center, the really rich houses are located in the lower neighborhoods southwest.

I charged my phone and went to Tigo office to fix the new fee card issue then toured around the city. I ran into a free walking you group on the way and joined them until 12:30 pm, to walk via attractions including the historical Plaza Murillo, the San Francisco Church, the Rodriguez Market, The San Pedro prison, the vibrant Witches' Market (Mercado de las Brujas), the government palace. The Sagarnaga Street is located just south of Plaza San Francisco), and is La Paz' main tourist strip. It's mainly a market street with artesano and souvenir stores, budget hostels, tour and travel agencies, cafes, and lots and lots of backpackers. The Witches' Market, (Mercado de Hechiceria or Mercado de las Brujas) is on a Calle between Sagarnaga and Santa Cruz. Vendors sell llama fetuses and dried frogs for Aymara rituals, as well as soapstone figurines and aphrodisiac formulas. This street is nest to the handcrafts marker to pick up a charango or other Bolivian musical instrument. The Plaza Murillo is surrounded by government buildings and the city cathedral.

I went back to a location to shop for money exchange and got 1:12.7. I then went back to the hostel to finish my leftovers and waited for check in.

After checking in around 1:00 pm, I took a hot shower, finished my laundry, and took a good nap, before heading back to down to shop for water and food. I got water for a supermarket, then banana and pan-fried egg with minced pork (肉碎煎蛋 , only 12b, about $1) as dinner. I took a lot of photos today yet forgot a photo of myself.
