Vila Madalena artsy Area and Liberdade
After simple breakfast at the hostel, I went to the nearby Wednesday farmers market to look at local produces and bought eggs and avocados.
I tried to walk to the meeting spot of the Vila Madalena artsy free walking tour, then my phone behaved funny on the way so I walked back to hostel to fix the problem by trying to and error. Finally, I got another eSIM to work on my phone, and ready to head out to tour the same area by myself, yet ran into one Brazilian hostel mate wanted to go as well.
We discovered São Paulo’s vibrant Vila Madalena neighborhood, and visited iconic spots like Beco do Batman, famous for its stunning street art.
Then we took subway to São Paulo is home to Liberdade, which was originally an Italian district, then Japanese and currently is heavily populated by Koreans and Chinese. Brazil has the largest Japanese population outside of Japan. It is not uncommon to see businesses and churches being conducted by Chinese and Korean-Brazilians in Liberdade. I ordered fried pork chop for late lunch.
