Rio Day 2
I and a hostel mate visited Aqua Rio and the Sunday market Glória Fair at Praça Paris. On the uber ride to Aqua Rio, I saw many of the downtown landmarks, but did not take photos from the Uber vehicle. On Sunday, most shops are closed and their security guards are absent so the neighbourhood Centro is not as safe during the daytime. We also saw the people ready for Brazil Independence Day parade.
I enjoyed Aqua Rio’s large size and impressive shark tunnel, although it was crowded. It is the largest marine aquarium in South America, featuring a wide variety of marine life with around 10,000 animals from 350 species. This attraction is expensive for the experience it offers, although I asked for local discount (from 160r to 99r) based on CPF I applied online before the trip.
Gloria Fair is a historic open-air market in Rio de Janeiro's Gloria neighborhood, operating every Sunday from early morning until late afternoon. Established over a century ago, it has become a vibrant cultural hub, attracting both locals and tourists. The market offers a diverse array of goods, including fresh produce, artisanal crafts, clothing, souvenirs, and international street food or homemade food. There were live music performances.
